Burgin (31.64N, 34.97E) is a site in central Israel, showcasing a vibrant Mediterranean faunal and floral community. Located in the Shfela region, a hilly terrain between the Judean Mountains and Israel's gently sloping Coastal Plains, Burgin is home to several ~2000 years old archaeological sites, and a mixture of Mediterranean maquis and shrubland.
During our informal trip to Burgin before the conference begins in earnest, we will walk the trails and search for quintessential reptiles of the Israeli Mediterranean biome - Chalcides guentheri, Phoenicolacerta laevis, Ophisops elegans, Pseudopus apodus, Chamaeleo chamaeleon, Eumeces schneideri, Mediodactylus kotschyi, Ptyodactylus guttatus and many more!
